The office integration for MS Word doesn't seem to have a brilliant future with SAP. It is not supported with PLM7 and does have some fairly big functional gaps - most important being backup and data loss on lost network connection and timeout from SAP.
We are seriously thinking that it needs to go, and replace it with something. The big issue is that SAP does not offer a very good "something else". Best solution this far seems to be to use something from Seal systems to update the properties asynchronously after check-in. Not exactly an ideal solution, and it does introduce more complexity.
Does anybody have any good workarounds or other solutions? Anybody done anything similar? The customer connection idea for a new integration with PLM7 got turned down, so there is probably not a new solution available within the near future.
