Re: One Asset class with Multiple Depreciation key

Hi SV, Mahesh, Sridhar,

If I am not wrong then SV requires them to get changed automatically and not manually for every asset that is created. In such a scenario changing the depreciation key in AS02 will not be feasible solution. Also adding more intervals will not be a feasible solution for two reasons:

1) You will end up adding one more depreciation key and thus at the same time two depreciation key will be applicable in case the depreciation interval (date range) are same or overlap.

2) If the depreciation interval (date range) for two entries differ then also better solution will be to change the depreciation key directly instead of adding one more entry to the list as the requirement is to apply different percentage to different shift machines and not different depreciation key for different intervals.

If you go for AS02 then just keep in mind if depreciation is already executed for previous period for that asset. In such scenario you will be required to do repeat run.

Solution suggested by Sridhar seems to be the feasible one if substitution works. You need to identify the parameter based on which you are differentiating different shift machines and create substitution rule.

However, the best practice should be to have different asset class for each of them and then create group asset to group them for reporting purpose. It will be neat and easy to maintain in future in case you need to change depreciation key or add/change depreciation area. In case of substitution you might have to do it for all the depreciation areas and have to be careful with it if any new area is being added.

Hope this answers your query.
